SBIR 95-1 SOLICITATION
PROJECT SUMMARY
Proposal Number:
Project Title:
NON-INTRUSIVE LIQUID AND TWO PHASE FLOWMETER
Technical Abstract:
Measuring the flow rates of cryogenic propellants is a
challenging application because of the associated low
temperatures, likelihood of two-phase flow conditions, and
hazardous nature of the working fluids. In the proposed
program, we will combine a commercially available passive
acoustic flow sensor with our own proprietary data analysis
method to develop a flow instrument suitable for use with
liquid and two-phase flows of cryogenic propellants. The Phase
I effort will demonstrate the feasibility of this concept
through lab-scale testing with air-water flows. Building on a
successful Phase I program, Phase II will pursue the full-scale
development of an accurate, robust, and reliable real-time
instrument system suitable for use with cryogenic
propellants.
Potential Commercial Applications:
If the proposed program is successful, we will commercialize
the resulting instrument for applications in cryogenic transfer
and the oil and gas, chemical process and nuclear power
industries.
