Miniature Independent Data Acquisition System
Abstract:
This effort will produce a miniaturized flight instrumentation
system for recording flight data. The product would be completely
self-contained (i.e., self-powered) and self-starting. The product
would set in a sleep mode for weeks until a significant measurable
event (i.e., pressure rise, strain change or radiation rise),
occurs to awaken the recording device. This product would be
inexpensive, lightweight and capable of withstanding harsh
environments. This product would have far ranging application
beyond those to be demonstrated within the proposed effort. It
would allow the engineer to obtain flight data without significant
cost risk and without risk to the flight vehicle. This product we
will label the Miniature Independent Data Acquisition Package
(MIDAP). MIDAP is unique compared to other computer data
acquisition packages in that (1) it will be smaller and lighter
weight; (2) it will have a sleep/awaken mode, making it a low
power, totally independent system; (3) it will have unique
simplified signal conditioning hardware; and (4) it will be capable
of enduring both severe structural and thermal loads.
Miniature independent data acquisition in crash dummies, aircraft,
and buildings during fires or explosions; data acquisition for
intermittent problems with air conditioning systems; chemical
plant, steel plant and aluminum plant subsystems and severe weather
recording in remote locations.
