Integrated Turbine Meanline Design and Off-Design Codes for Low
Cost Rockets.
Abstract:
This Small Business Innovative Research Phase I project provides
the preliminary design, coding, and documentation for a set of
Integrated Turbine Meanline Design and Off-Design Codes for Low
Cost Rockets. A prototype code will be developed that includes all
the user interfaces, high level code modules, and a detailed
implementation of one option. This innovation consists of the
integration of design and off-design lD analysis tools for
supersonic and subsonic turbine analysis. The common user interface
and nomenclature for the four meanline turbine codes will save
turbine design or analysis engineers time in learning the codes and
in implementing and evaluating designs for low cost rocket
turbomachinery. Small companies or government groups who do not
have the resources to develop their own turbine design and analysis
system can readily obtain this software. The cost of turbines can
be reduced if small, lean companies are able to provide the turbine
instead of the larger, expensive companies. The Phase I effort
provides the foundation for the Phase II completion of this
software system which will aid this process. Software engineering
principles will be used in the analysis, design, coding, test, and
documentation of this integrated turbine software system.
The completed software system can be sold or licensed to small
turbine manufacturing companies. It can be provided to government
groups responsible for evaluating turbine proposals, development,
or procurement. It can provide consultants with a tool for turbine
analysis or design contracts.
