TECHNICAL ABSTRACT (LIMIT 200 WORDS)
This Phase II program is developing NET Shape components from Encapsulated Powders. Significant advances in Phase I for various materials and in net shape processing techniques have been realized. The objective of Phase II is to continue fabrication of these unique materials and compare multiple net shape processes and systems for various applications, APS and UC Davis have assembled world reknowned team of experts and commercial partners to aid phase II development of NET Shape components and final Phase III commercialization.
POTENTIAL NASA COMMERCIAL APPLICATIONS (LIMIT 100 WORDS)
The program will impact almost every NASA program from space staion to aircraft enabling new materials and processes. Applications for the NET SHAPE PROCESSING are in the low production net shape componenets. For many NASA programs which only make one or two components this system could be invaluable, as well as providing the abilityto provide replacement parts directly form powder eliminating th eneed for large spare part inventory (Space Station), The ability to provide quick components of various materials systems would be helpful on all exploration programs. equal or greater thatn properties have achieved during the rapid cooling process openining up more applications.
POTENTIAL NON-NASA COMMERCIAL APPLICATIONS (LIMIT 100 WORDS)
Structures, Space Station, repair, lightweight materials, Electronics, Automotive, Thermal Spray and medical applications will all reap benefits.
