Deformation Control Technology, Inc.

Cleveland, OH

INNOVATION
Software that enables design optimization of thermal and environmental barrier coatings (EBC) in aerospace and land-based turbine components
Simulation Software to Characterizes Response of Thermal Barrier Coating during Burner Rig Testing
Simulation Software to Characterizes Response of
Thermal Barrier Coating during Burner Rig Testing

ACCOMPLISHMENTS
  • Successful incorporation of 6 main stress drivers into Thermal Barrier Coating (TBC) model, including oxidation
  • First fundamental description of the role of oxidation in TBC/EBC failure
  • First analytical characterization of multi-layer bond coats and environmental/oxidation barriers through simulation
  • /font>
  • Provided first basic descriptors for quantifying delamination stresses in multi-coating systems
COMMERCIALIZATION
  • In use to analyze test results and design TBCs for electric power generation turbine applications
  • Commercial contract in excess of $30K initiated during and after Phase I work
  • Continued research collaboration in land-based turbine sector
GOVERNMENT/SCIENCE APPLICATIONS
  • Useful to define failure mechanisms in both thermal and environmental barrier coating systems
  • Can be used within both NASA and the land-based turbine sector to reduce costly experimentation while developing advanced and innovative coating
