Grid Computing for Commercial Applications

3DGeo Development Inc.

Santa Clara, CA

INNOVATION

  • Grid-Enabled INSP (G-INSP) is a major enhancement of 3DGeo’s Java-based client-server INSP commercial product, extending its original functionality to the context of a Grid of remote computational and data resources
  • G-INSP is compliant with the Open Grid Services Infrastructure (OGSI) standard, and as such provides a versatile portal for Grid computing applicable to any resource-intensive scientific application
  • The outcome of this Phase II project is a prototype of G-INSP customized for seismic imaging
Grid Computing for Commercial ApplicationsGrid Computing for Commercial Applications

ACCOMPLISHMENTS
  • 3DGeo’s first commercial application of G-INSP will be seismic imaging for energy exploration and development, a 2 billion dollar market and natural fit for Grid usage because of its requirements for very large processing and data storage capacities

COMMERCIALIZATION

  • 3DGeo merged with Fusion Geophysical, LLC to created FusionGeo, Inc. The merger integrates the imaging technologies of 3DGeo with Fusion’s GeoPro™ platform, while capitalizing on Fusion’s global network of partner companies
GOVERNMENT/SCIENCE APPLICATIONS
  • G-INSP provides a convenient and versatile graphical user interface for the detection of available remote resources, for workflow design and execution, and for continuous monitoring of the resources being used. This has direct relevance to applications of importance to NASA such as image processing and the numerical simulation of wind tunnels. It can also be used as a front-end to many other scientific applications such as the design of new pharmaceuticals (computational chemistry), DNA sequencing, modeling of world economies, and high-energy physics.
