ACCOMPLISHMENTS
- Advanced CBT application developed
for NASA at Kennedy Space Center called the Automated Recertification
Training System (ARTS) increased training efficiency and cost effectiveness
for technicians in learning critical skills
- Evaluation of CBT courseware
at KSC showed up to 50 percent reduction in training time over classroom-based
methods with a 10 to 20 percent improvement in pre/post test scores
- CBT development time was reduced
by 30 to 60 percent, enabling courseware to be maintained by non-programmers
- Additional CBT programs developed
for other customers that train analysts and technicians to operate
and maintain systems for communications, safety, and weather forecasting
systems
- Total revenue generated from
follow-on efforts is approximately $350K through October 1998
|
COMMERCIALIZATION
- Experience gained
in the SBIR led directly to development of an international training
program to accompany the installation of a seismic array network
for monitoring the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty.
The training program, developed for AlliedSignal Corp., includes
CBT modules that instruct host nation technicians in the operation,
maintenance, and administration of seismic array stations.
Use of interactive multimedia technology will reduce training time
and make seismic array systems easier to use and maintain.

GOVERNMENT/SCIENCE
APPLICATIONS
- For NASA/KSC, ENSCO developed
CBT pilot training troubleshooting and maintenance of Space Shuttle
components. Multimedia technology provided realistic portrayal
of shop floor scenarios, allowing just-in-time (JIT) recertification
by KSC technicians
- Interactive CBT course enabling
shop floor technicians to become familiar with data collection and
analysis procedures that measure the effectiveness of Shuttle processing
operations
- KSC contractors continue to
use ARTS concepts and methodologies in JIT CBT programs, which have
contributed to improved Shuttle processing safety and efficiency
- For the U.S. Air Force, ENSCO
developed CBT programs for training Air Force personnel in weather
and safety systems critical to Eastern Range Spacelift Operations
- Also for the Air Force, a CBT
application to illustrate the operation and underlying principles
associated with NASA’s Lightning Detection and Ranging (LDAR) System
was produced.
